2008 First Place Television Broadcast News Winner

In their own words…

“Memories filled my four days in San Francisco. The weather was gorgeous, the hotel was probably the nicest I’ll ever stay in, and of course, the competition was tough (I’ll never think of farmers markets the same way again). But, that’s not what I’ll remember most.

When I arrived in the city by the bay, I didn’t know what to expect. I thought the other broadcast finalists would be fiercely competitive. I thought no one would talk to each other until their assignments were complete, concerned only about their shot at the first place prize, doing anything they could to win. I couldn’t have been further from the truth. As we all met each other and chatted during the welcome reception and dinner, I knew that spending a week with these people would be a lot of fun. Even after shooting and editing our assignments, the other television broadcast finalists and I held a viewing party to watch and praise everyone’s work.

The thanks I have for the Hearst Foundation and everyone involved in the Journalism Awards Program is beyond words, for experiences and new friends that I will remember for the rest of my life.”
