2018-19 Radio

2019 Radio Championship

This year, one radio competition was held in the News & Features category. The top winners from those 45 entrants qualified to participate in the Hearst National Radio
Championship in San Francisco June 2-6, 2019.

Once in San Francisco, the radio finalists were assigned to tell a local story about immigration. The finalists’ radio packages were to include an anchor lead-in,
a recorded wrap and a completed script to be presented as a piece for a radio network’s morning drive segment. The judges expected to receive a news piece, ranging between one to two minutes in addition to a shorter 40-second piece.

The judges received the completed entries by Wednesday morning for review. The winners were announced at the awards ceremony that evening.

The first-through-third place winners were awarded scholarships of $10,000, $7,500, and $5,000 respectively.

The two finalists earned $1,500 scholarships each.

An additional $1,000 award for Best Use of Radio for News Coverage was selected from the monthly competition submissions.
