2017 Championship Multimedia Winners

This year marked the seventh Hearst National Multimedia Championship. From the record 260 multimedia entries received in the four monthly competitions, five winners qualified for this special event in San Francisco. The finalists arrived in the city on Monday, May 29th, and immediately met with their judges for orientation and to review their assignment. This year, the finalists were asked to produce a three-to-five multimedia piece comparing and contrasting at least two points of view in the Bay Area on a given quality of life issue.

The judges received the completed entries by Thursday morning for review. The winners were announced at the awards ceremony that evening. The first-through-third place winners were awarded scholarships of $5,000, $4,000, and $3,000 respectively. The finalist earned a $1,500 scholarship. An additional $1,000 Multimedia Story of the Year Award was selected from the monthly competition entries.
