In their own words…

“Reporting in a strange city was not only my biggest challenge of the competition, it was my biggest adventure. That first night in San Francisco, the judges handed out the assignments and sent us scattering on our way – two stories in two days. At eleven that night I sat staring at my laptop, fingers resting on the keys in a state of overwhelming bewilderment. I was attempting to report on a city I knew nothing about.

There’s no better way to learn about a city than to report on it. On the ground not 24 hours, tape recorder in hand, I was speaking with community leaders about the issues closest to them. It was a lesson in politics (and geography) that no tourist could ever obtain, and it’s a lesson that must be discovered by pounding the pavement.”
