In their own words…

“I put a lot of pressure on myself before arriving at the Championship by thinking of ways to approach the competition and New York City. I told myself to relax and that everything would be fine. New York City can be overwhelming to anyone but in particular to someone who is working on a tight deadline in a competition setting.

I found myself being overwhelmed the first day as I looked for the perfect story, and I had to take a moment to put myself together. I took a seat at the South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan. I saw many visual opportunities and decided to stay there the rest of the day to work on my story about the Manhattan coastline.

I had one goal coming to Hearst: to produce photos that I was happy with while having fun doing it. After the boat trips, various conversations, and adventure throughout the city, I achieved my goal.”
